About me
My name is Alexis Muhumure. I am married and have one son. I was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, grew up in Rwanda, and fled to Uganda with my family for safety. In 2014, we moved to the United States together. Currently, I serve as the assistant pastor at Rehoboth International Church in Dayton, Ohio, where my father is the senior pastor. Upon arriving in the U.S., I realized that while my calling from God remained unchanged, the context of my ministry needed to adapt. I quickly understood that to effectively expand God’s kingdom here in U.S, I had to adjust my approach to ministry to fit the American context. This required me to learn English, familiarize myself with American culture and traditions, and, most importantly, build connections with the American people.
Many immigrant pastors, like me, come to the U.S. with the vision of sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with the broader American community. However, many immigrant churches in America tend to focus primarily on their own ethnic groups, reaching out mainly to individuals from their own backgrounds. This is the passion that drives me, and I feel called by God to assist immigrant pastors to learn how they can adapt their ministries and churches to fit American culture without compromising the truth of the Gospel, while also making their churches welcoming to everyone.
Immigrant churches and leaders should work to eliminate unnecessary cultural and linguistic barriers that may prevent people from other cultures and languages from attending their churches
