About me
WHAT EXPERIENCE DO YOU HAVE RELATED TO THE BREAKOUT SESSION TOPIC?
I've been learning about and figuring out small group leadership for around four years now. My group life experience started back in June 2000 at Covenant Church of Pittsburgh as a newbie believer placed within a cell group within my neighborhood. I first experienced the power of small group there as I grew in my faith. It continued when I landed at Radiant Life Church in 2006 and found group life to be the easiest way to building relationships in a community in which I knew no one. Over time, the various life groups I've been involved in have nurtured my spiritual growth, supported me through some very difficult life circumstances, enriched me with great fellowship, and provided me with incredible opportunities to serve others. I became a small group leader in 2013, joined a national small group pastors network in 2014, and began equipping other small group leaders in 2016. It's been quite the journey.
WHY ARE YOU PASSIONATE ABOUT THIS PARTICULAR BREAKOUT TOPIC?
Whatever name you choose to use - teams, community, small groups, cells -- the truth remains that life was not meant to be lived solo. In an "all about me" culture we're called to live counter-culturally in a unified community setting. Small groups are a vital part of how relationships are built to allow unity to emerge. Yet, small group life is not without its challenges. We're all different and we have our preferences, and there's lots of work to be done. So how does it all come together around mission to enable the church to thrive within its local context? We can learn a lot from churches who have successfully leveraged small groups to grow disciples, extend care, and serve the church and community. So that's what we're going to do. We all grow better together.
JUST FOR FUN...
When I was 5, I was pretty sure I'd be a PERFORMER (singing, acting) when I grew up.
If I could be the combination of any two animals, I would be A DOLPHIN AND A LION.
If I were a pasta shape, I would be a ROTINI.
